Operation Candle Light

Christmas Eve 2022

In association with Kaotic  Angels LEMC, Project 71 is delighted to launch Operation Candle Light. The objective is to place as many grave lights in Commonwealth War Grave Cemeteries on Christmas Eve 2022 as possible.  This is a tradition that has taken place in the Netherlands since WW2 and we feel that its time to adopt this in the UK and other countries to remember the fallen not only on Remembrance Day but at Christmas and throughout the year. This is a wonderful opportunity to pay respects to the people who have made the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the freedom of our countries. It is also a community event that brings people together outside of our normal events of remembrance to reflect on the sacrifice and the consequences of conflict.

We are therefore seeking volunteers and Team Leaders to help make this happen and light up as many graves as possible.

We will be posting full instructions here later in the year, but basically we are looking for people to place a small tea light in the front of the headstones on Christmas Eve so the lights will glow until Boxing Day. If you place a light you must commit to removing it again by the 28th December please.

If you wish to place a light in a local Council owned cemetery, you will need to seek permission for this.

If you are not sure where your local CWG Cemetery is you can check on their website or download the app.

Please get in touch if you can spare a few hours on Christmas Eve to make this happen.

Lets light up the country in Remembrance of those who gave so much.

At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

Project 71 is run by volunteers and is a strictly not for profit organisation.
